Samsung Brings Out The Big Guns For SID 2007

Samsung is looking to make a splash at this year’s Society for Display and a few of the displays they’ve brought with them from Korea are primed to get the job done. What better way to start off the show then to win the SID Gold Award for Display of the Year with an LED backlit 40-inch LCD TV. The award winning set has a 10,000:1 contrast ratio and color saturation that’s 105% of the NTSC standard. The fun, obviously, doesn’t stop there.

A 70-inch beast with proprietary 120Hz McFiTM (motion-compensated frame interpolation) technology is also being showcased. If you were wondering why 120Hz sets are far superior then the easiest way to put it is that these sets double the number of frames per second leaving super crisp images. 120Hz TV with P0rn equals awesome!

Last but definitely not least is the ‘world’s largest’ e-paper. The 14.3-inch flexible plastic display is neat because it maintains a static image of whatever you were watching even when it’s shut off. Another ‘world’s largest’ 40-inch black and white e-paper is being flaunted at the show. This one is an Electrophoretic display (EPD) that has HD resolution and uses very little power compared to conventional LCD displays. It uses 1/500 the power, which puts it at 300mW at one frame per minute.
