Happy Birthday, Little People!

Awwww… Fisher-Price’s Little People are 50 years old tomorrow which means that that weird-looking dog and his staid-looking plastic friends are now half a century old. My own childhood involves hours spent playing with the treehouse playset – with trap door – and the castle playset – with trap door. Kids of a certain age will remember that these wee ones used to be made of wood then hard plastic and now something a bit softer.

The product line started back in 1950 when founder Herm Fisher’s designers “created the Looky Fire Truck, with three little round-headed wooden firemen permanently attached to the toy.” Then they made a nice little bus – the Safety School Bus, shown above – with removable characters.

We would suggest you prepare yourselves for tomorrow’s big Little People giveaway by going over your own experience with the toy line and perhaps attempting to remember how many Little People you put in your mouth before the age of six.
