PSN Hacked Again, Albeit Mildly

Another day, another PSN hack. This time we face a problem with the password reset page that users must face in order to log back in. However, given that the hackers stole everyone’s user accounts in the first place, the security measures put in place to ensure that no one can assign you a new password – namely entering your email address and birthdate – are nullified. Therefore, anyone with that info can change your password for you.

Writes Sony:

“Unfortunately this also means that those who are still trying to change their password via or will be unable to do so for the time being. This is due to essential maintenance and at present it is unclear how long this will take. In the meantime you will still be able to sign into PSN via your PlayStation 3 and PSP devices to connect to game services and view Trophy/Friends information.”

So you can sign in but you can’t change your password or access the store. However, if a hacker does change your password, you’re SOL.

Cue the sad trombone.
