Announcing Disrupt Beijing 2011

TechCrunch is going to Beijing for our first international Disrupt in China. TechCrunch has long been a blog that covers more than just the Silicon Valley echo-chamber and in the future we want to be anywhere top entrepreneurs are. It’s hard to think of any place more exciting, challenging and lucrative than China right now. As home to the world’s largest Web audience and two of the five largest Web companies in the world, China proves the best Web entrepreneurs are no longer all in Silicon Valley.

Just like in New York and San Francisco, we’ll have some lively stage debates showcasing big names from Silicon Valley and China, and a Battlefield Startup Competition.

And developers, SAVE THE DATE! We plan to host a Hackathon event October 29-30 also at the CNCC more details soon.

About the CNCC

China National Convention Center (CNCC) has opened officially in October 2009 for its originally intended function – providing international standard, purpose-built convention and exhibition facilities.

The Center was an important element in the overall plan for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games when it served as the main press center and international broadcasting location as well as providing the venue for fencing and pistol shooting competitions.? CNCC is ideally located in the heart of the Olympic Green adjacent to the National Stadium (Bird Nest), the National Aquatics Center (Water Cube) and the National Indoor Stadium – all of which are proving popular places for people to visit in post Olympic Games times.

Apply to the Battlefield

Applications to the Disrupt Battlefiled are now open. Applications will close Sunday night, September 11 at midnight Pacific Time (US) or Monday, September 12 at Noon China Standard Time (CST).

We will review applications on a rolling basis, so it’s to your advantage to submit as soon as you are ready. Due to strong demand, we are unable to review applications more than once, so please do not submit a draft application before you are ready for final consideration.

PowerPoint slides are optional, but video demos are required. We look forward to reviewing your application.

All Submissions are confidential unless otherwise permitted by applicants on the application form.

Rules & Requirements

To compete in the Startup Battlefield, at time of application submission startups must be live for fewer than three months, less than two years old.

In selecting final contestants, we will give heavy preference to companies that launch for the first time to the public and press at TechCrunch Disrupt. We consider new products from existing companies to be significant. Due to the limited number of competition slots on stage, companies launching new feature sets do not qualify as launch companies. The competition will take place in Beijing, CHINA, and we strongly encourage companies based in China, have chinese interests and/or are from the Pan Asia region to submit their startups for consideration.

Companies that have presented at other public launch events are not eligible for Startup Battlefield. If you’re choosing between launch platforms and need an early decision, please apply and email us at and we’ll priority review your application.
